While at BlogWorld it was amazing to see how many people are not making money with their blog, or at least not fully monetizing their blog for a potential revenue stream. Though some of this information may seem basic to seasoned affiliates and bloggers, the purpose is to help and increase revenue growth and awareness for bloggers of all sizes. Here are a few ways that you can start making money with your personal or business blog.
1.) Google Adsense What has been referred to as many as “webmaster welfare”, is sometimes the best solution for beginners. For those just starting out with a blog, or unsure how to start making money, Google Adsense is a good way to start. As a blogger, all you need to do is place a simple line of code on your blog and Google Adsense will place relevant contextual ads on your web site based on your written content. However, since Google is doing all of the work, you will be receiving a small cut for the actual amount of advertising you are given.
2.) Direct Advertising One of the best ways (if not the best) to monetize your blog is to create your own on site advertising and to sell these spots yourself. Not only are you in control of what advertisements are on the site, but you are receiving full payment for each spot. The majority of blogs are implementing 125×125 ad spots on their pages for direct advertising.
3.) Paid Reviews Once you have an established blog or brand, you may want to start offering services for exposure on your blog, such as a sponsored or paid review/post. The best way to offer paid reviews on your blog is to setup an advertising page for sponsored reviews, or you can also join “sponsored review” networks like ReviewMe and PayPerPost, which will feature your blog in their directory and send you new customers, in exchange for a commission percentage.
4.) Contextual Advertising Placing advertising on your site from Google Adsense is a form of contextual advertising, but it is also still also banner advertising and not displayed directly within your written content. There are many advertising networks out there like Kontera, which will find targeted keywords in your blog content and link them to specific advertisers. You are then paid per click to these advertisements.
5.) Self Managed Content Links
Just like using any advertising network, the less work you have to do, usually the smaller margin you will receive. Instead of using a company like Kontera, you can purchase a word press plugin (such as WP Affiliate Pro, which I also use) and manage your own content advertising. The best way to do this would be through affiliate networks and selecting offers that best match your content and linking up related keywords in your blog content.
6.) Referrals
Depending on your blog niche market, you can earn commissions on referring your readers to other networks or web site. A great example of this is for affiliate marketing. If you refer an affiliate to a network, you can receive a percentage from all commissions they generate for the life of their account. Another example would be to provide your visitors to a service they are billed monthly for, some programs will then pay you a commission every month as long as they remain a subscriber.
7.) Widget Based Programs
If you currently run a blog that is focused on product reviews or about any type of item sold in stores or online, you may find that “widget based” programs perform best with your blog. Programs like Chitika, WidgetBucks, Shopzilla and TZZ Media will all display relevant advertising on your blog, matching up with your content. Most of these programs pay on a per click basis. As most of these programs are widget based, you will have actual text and picture ads displayed on your blog, rather than just text within your content.
8.) Contests & Promotions
Though you may not get paid for running contests or promotions on your blog, if you run them correctly, you can be compensated with a prize or additional advertising. Additionally, running contests will also increase your readership, as everyone likes free stuff!
9.) Consulting
One of the best ways for you to get exposure for yourself or your brand name, is through having a well known blog. As your readership and branding grows, you may be able to offer “consulting” services if you become a prominent and very knowledgeable in your niche area. There are many very big name bloggers out there who make all of their money off public speaking or consulting, and have NO advertisements on their blogs.
1.) Where to Find an Offers
One of the most important factors in making money with PPC Marketing is utilizing a high quality offer which will effectively bring in sales. I recommend using NeverBlueAds to search through a large amount of high paying offers that you can promote through PPC. In this guide (demonstration), I will use their network and one of their offers to walk you through the process. (If you are not already a NeverBlueAds affiliate, you can click here to signup and your account should be approved quickly.)
- Apply to NeverBlueAds
- I also recommend running PPC campaigns through Peer-fly. 2.) Setup a Google Ad words account
If you don’t already have a Google Adwords account, you will need to signup for one now. Through Google Adwords, you will setup and track all of your pay per click campaigns. In addition to Google, I also recommend using MSN and Yahoo. However, this guide is based on the Google Adwords method. 3.) Selecting Your Offer to Promote
Once you are a member of NeverBlueAds, you can log into their system. On the main login page you will see a “search box” and you will also see a field for “Top Ten Search Campaigns”. If you want to try running an offer that others are already doing well with, you can simply grab one of the top ten offers listed, or you can search and find a campaign on your own. One benefit to finding an offer other than one listed in the “top ten” is that you will have less competition and saturation. Lately I have preferred working with higher end CPA offers, this way I can spend more on lower click amounts to test the campaign
For this PPC Guide, I will use the “Amazon Weight Loss” offer on NeverBlueAds. The offer currently pays a $32 commission and is ranked 5/5 for Network Earnings. I have not personally tested or run this offer, this is just for the walkthrough. 4.) Setting up your PPC Campaign
Once logged into your Google Adwords account. A:) Go to Create a New Campaign, and click “Keyword Targeted” B:) On the next page you will setup your “Campaign Name” and “AdGroup“. The “Campaign Name” of course should be the same as the offer name you are promoting. You can setup multiple “AdGroups” for a campaign. AdGroups are basically the different sets of keywords that you want to promote. To start out I would stay with ONE AdGroup. (On this same page you can also target by “Language” and “Country“. We won’t change these fields)
C:) The next page goes into more detail on “Country” tracking. We will stick with United States targeting. D:) On the “Create Ad” page, you will write up your ad copy that people will see when they use Google Search or see your ad on a site using Google Adsense. The mock write up I did for the “Amazon Weight Loss” campaign is shown below.
E:) After writing up your ad copy, you will be sent to the “Choose Keywords” page. From here you will decide on all the traffic keywords that will target your ad to appear. Your keywords will greatly effect your traffic, conversions and pay per click bid rates. One way you can get more keywords is to use Google’s “Want More?” keyword feature. Simply enter any keyword or phrase, such as “weight loss“, and Google will provide you with a bunch of relevant terms. You can then click “Add” next to each term, and this will add it to your campaign keywords. Another tool you can use to gain relevant keywords is Google’s Keyword Tool.
F:) I went through and selected the first ten results from the Google “Want More?” keyword tool for “weight loss“. On the next page you will decide how much you are willing to pay per click, and set your daily budget. I setup bid pricing at a max of .05 per click and my daily budget is at $100 per day. Setting the daily budget is very important, as this will limit your ad costs and any loss you may incur while trying to make your campaign profitable. You will also need to be more creative with your keywords (for a particular weight loss campaign like this), as bid pricing on these targeted terms is much higher than .05 per click.
G:) We are now at the last step of setting up your ppc campaign, and this is to simply review everything you have setup.
H:) You have now completed setting up your campaign, and it should now be live. If there were any problems with your campaign, Google will send you an email letting you know if your campaign was denied and why. Depending on your keywords and bid prices, traffic should start flowing through your new campaign. If at anytime you want to pause or stop the campaign, you can do so at the main page of your Google Adwords account.
MAKE YOURS PPC CAMPAIGN SUCCEED!
1.) SubID Tracking: When first grabbing your offer from NeverBlueAds to promote, make sure you go to the offer creative page, click “Paid Search Creatives”. Once on this tab you should see an area that says “Use Subid”. You can put a simple tag in here like “googlediet“. A new url will be given to you in the above url section. You can grab this url and promote it on your Google Adwords campaign. By doing this you can pull separate tracking reports based on your campaigns. If you were two run this same offer on Google, Yahoo and MSN, create three separate subid urls and you can easily track your campaign performance for each.
2.) Pixel Tracking: In addition to SubID tracking, you can pull a pixel code from Google Adwords. With a pixel in place on the offer confirmation page, Google can then provide you with some really great stats on your campaign. Instead of just seeing what your click, impression and cost amounts are, Google can now show you your conversion rates and average price to obtain a lead. (To setup pixel tracking, go to any of your existing campaigns on Google Adwords, then you can click “Conversion Tracking” on the top menu”.) To place a tracking pixel on a CPA offer run through a network like NeverBlueAds, you will need to contact your affiliate manager about having them place the pixel for you. There are also several ppc tracking methods and services for you to choose from.
3.) Content Network vs Google Search: To get listed on Google’s main search, you will need to create your own landing page and have your own hosted site and worry about quality score rankings, which will effect your bid pricing. If you are advertising on the “content network”, you don’t need to create your own site. Through the content network you can send traffic directly to the campaign you are advertising. (To advertise on the Google Content Network, go to your campaign main page on Google Adwords, click “Edit Campaign Settings“, then only check off “Content Network“.)
4.) Link Url: When setting up your Google Adwords campaign, you were asked to give a “Display URL” and a “Destination URL“. If you are going to advertise on the “content network”, here’s a tip that can really improve your CTR. You can purchase a domain through GoDaddy and redirect the url to your offer landing page. You can only imagine how many more people would show interest and click a link that said something like http://www.MyBestWeightLossNow.com (fake url), rather than a long string of letters and numbers that aren’t relevant to the ad. Once you have done some testing with your campaign, throw a few bucks into a referral domain name and see how much it may improve your overall campaign numbers.
5.) Ad Variations: Having more than one advertisement for everyone to see, can greatly improve your ppc campaign. Setup a new ad creative and add it to your rotation by going to your main campaign page, clicking on an “Ad Group“, then click the “Ad Variations” tab near the top right. Click “Text Ad” (next to Create New Ad) and repeat the process above for writing your new ad copy. Once you have a few ads in rotation, you can further optimize your ppc campaigns by seeing which are pulling the best click through rates as well as conversion costs.
6.) The Big 3: Google, Yahoo and MSN are the big three search engines and between the three of them, they will produce enough volume for you to successfully make money enough with PPC. There are a ton of second tier search engines out there, and plenty of them offer clicks as low as .01 each. I highly recommend staying away from these search engines for marketing, at least until you have some experience with PPC. The majority of the second tier search engines will send low quality and/or foreign traffic. Stick with the BIG 3… test with each and see where your ad dollars are converting best.

In the mid to late 1990s, there were only a handful of affiliate networks. Now there are hundreds. Which networks are best for you and who you should trust, is the biggest factors when joining a new affiliate network. In this article, we are going to breakdown the benefits of using an affiliate network, why some are better than others, and a few of the top performing affiliate networks in our industry.
What is an Affiliate Network?
The best way to think of an affiliate network, is to think of a middle man between merchants and affiliates. If you’ve ever bought a house, you have a lawyer and an escrow account. The seller and buyer won’t exchange money/house until both parties are satisfied… the same concept can be applied to an affiliate network. The main reason why an affiliate network exists, is so an affiliate can find a decent amount of offers in one location, while merchants can have a lot of affiliates finding their offers. The affiliate network does the dirty work of having to recruit affiliates, bring in new advertisers, track leads and send out payments. With such work to be done by the networks, they are usually receiving commissions in the 15-30% range for their work. (Example: If an offer is paying $10 per lead, the advertiser is probably paying $13 and the network earns $3 per lead.)
Why You Should Use an Affiliate Network?
As an affiliate, you have a lot of options for running offers and making money. The best and most efficient way to find new offers and get started, is to join an affiliate network. Not only do networks have a great deal of offers/merchants to choose from, but they offer support, creative services and can pay more on most offers if you can provide volume. Most importantly, you can run several different offers at the same time, then receive one check at the end of the week/month.
Benefits of Using an Affiliate Network:
- All tracking and payments are done by one network.
- Networks act as a middle man, and in most cases will pay their affiliates, if the network itself is not paid by the advertiser.
- Rewards programs and incentives. A lot of networks like to motivate their affiliates to bring in more volume and earn more money. Some networks offer a 1-2% bonus on monthly earnings, or will reward affiliates with vacations or other prizes.
Marketing Methods for Affiliate Network
If you read the first two articles, you now should have a good idea of what affiliate marketing is, and how to join an affiliate network to find new offers. Let’s move on to the “marketing methods” and how you can start promoting offers and making money.
On Site / Web Site
The most obvious method for advertising, is on site advertising. This type of advertising can consist of anything from text link advertising, to banner advertising. Almost every web site you visit has some form on site advertising. When buying banner advertising on a web site, advertisers are usually paying on a monthly or CPM (cost per 1,000 views) basis.
Social Networks
Two of the major social networks with great advertising platforms are MySpace and Facebook. The huge benefit to advertising on social networks, is that you can heavily target your ad campaigns to nearly any demographic. MySpace accepts several different banner sizes for ad campaigns, while Facebook offers 120×80 images and text advertising. Both platforms are setup for CPM or CPC bidding.
Search Marketing / Pay Per Click
The bread and butter of affiliate marketing is known as search engine marketing or “pay per click”. When you go to Google and search for any term, you will see an a separate listing of sites on the right side of the page called “Sponsored Links”. Advertisers are listed in this section because they are paying to be shown on the first page of search results, by bidding on specific search terms. The major search engines for PPC advertising are Google, Yahoo and Bing.
Pay Per View
Over the past year, pay per view or PPV advertising has grown tremendously. PPV advertising is usually in the form of a pop under window which spawns when the user visits a web site. PPV advertising is very cheap, and can cost lower than a penny per view, but can also send thousands of impressions within minutes. When advertising with pay per view campaigns, you select what interests/web sites you want your pop unders to appear on.
Email / Mailing Lists
Another effective type of advertising is done through email and mailing lists. The difference between regular email and advertising and building up a mailing list is crucial. When sending out emails for affiliate marketing / profit purposes, you are usually sending out solo mailings with just an advertisement. These emails are usually from site visitors when they fill out surveys, forms or request to receive mail from third parties. The other type of mailing is when you are trying to build up a mailing list for your web site or product. In most cases, you are trying to build up a loyal readership and don’t want to spam your readers. The profit in a mailing list is that the readers will keep coming back, and actually enjoy your mailings.
The Affiliate Marketing (or internet marketing) is very similar to offline marketing. Basically the central concept for this business is to unveil urgency on individuals, a problem in their lives and find a product that they solve this problem, something they like to walk. This is for me, the concept that must be followed. In the beginning there is a lot tend to seek the right product to promote, in my opinion this is WRONG. You should always focus our research on consumers, individuals seeking dissatisfied with something, seeking a quick solution to your problem. Clearly the more desperate they are, the greater will be the conversion rates. The function of an "internet marketer" (sorry but I could not find a translation for this profession that sounded good in Portuguese) is precisely aligning these two entities: a consumer and a product. Ads by Google
everybody wins in this process:
Consumers who are accustomed to go to the Internet to search for a solution to all your difficulties and products more economic than those sold in conventional stores (right?).
The merchants (let's call it that companies that have products to sell) because they have thousands of vendors to do the marketing work for free, do not have to invest peva to sell the product using this system Affiliate Marketing;
We, internet marketers, because commissions earned big bucks (to reach 90%) for sales made (and not returned).
In affiliate marketing, there may be a fourth element, and in most cases there, which is the affiliate network. An affiliate network basically makes the connection between the merchant and internet marketer. A company does not need to have a large presence on the net to join the scheme, just having a website for sales and sign up for an affiliate network (eg Click bank, Peperjam, Commission Junction, etc ...). The network also gives more security to the Internet marketer, because these networks are secure and guarantee that there will be difficulties at the time of payment of commissions. Another advantage is that by promoting a product, we can not reach the minimum threshold for payment and we get commissions attached to the can. When we promote several products of a network is much easier to argue that this is because all the committees together into one. You do not need its own product to become an internet marketer, there are thousands of companies that crave them who can sell the products.
If you are new to affiliate marketing then you better read the entire article and avoid the affiliate mistakes to earn more commissions. Today making money from affiliate marketing is one of the best online business which requires low investment and with proper marketing of affiliate products anyone can do well with this type of business. This very nature of affiliate marketing is tempting many people to try it out but most of them fail to succeed and end up giving up on this business.
A very few affiliates out there earn thousands of dollars a month but majority of the beginners struggle to earn even $50 a month, the difference between successful and amateur affiliates is a proven marketing strategy. Super affiliates have solid marketing plan which they follow for every product promotion. It is not that they were successful the very first time of promoting an affiliate product, it is the mistakes that they have done and realized it which gives them a strong knowledge of what works and what does not work?
Affiliate Program – Choose a good affiliate program to promote, concentrate on quality and next on the commission percentage because higher the quality of the product better will be the conversion rate.
Do not sell just, try to solve a problem and recommend the product as a solution. It is not a good idea to send the traffic directly to the merchants website without pre-selling, create your own website with valuable information to your website visitors and then lead them to the product affiliate link.
Mask your affiliate links, people do not like to click ugly links so cloak your affiliate links which will help avoid commission theft and increase the conversion rate.
Do not waste your time promoting the products to non targeted audience, find traffic sources which you can use to drive targeted traffic to your website or affiliate product this will increase the amount sales.
If you want to beat your competitors then be one step ahead of them, learn what they are good at and apply them to your marketing strategies if possible do things better than them.
There are many good products to promote do not choose a product that has a lot of competition if you are new to affiliate marketing, try low competition niche then move over to higher competition markets because it would be very discouraging if you cannot perform well in a heavy competition market (if you are a beginner) so succeed in low competition markets first.
Sign up to some of the popular affiliate forums which is a good place to learn from experienced marketers. At these forums ask questions on any topic related to affiliate marketing and you will get a lot of answers from members of the forum. Once you find success with your marketing strategy just repeat it with different products and expand your business empire. Do not just read an article and forget about it at the end of the day, people who do not take action will not succeed in affiliate marketing.

Now let’s go in detail about affiliate marketing with squidoo lens.
First choose an affiliate product to promote and do some keyword research and pick keywords that have good buying intent and also low or moderate competition. Choose keywords such that they have enough search volume every month and it should have the potential to get you sales each month.
When you are finished with the keyword research now prepare the content for your lens. See that you have the main keyword in the title and also in the subtitle and url of lens, this will help in securing a good position in the search results for that keyword. Now fill your intro module keep it short not more then 100 words and this is were you have to write the eye catching content for the users and keep them curious about rest of the content and they will read your lens further down.
Upload a relevant image and it should convey the readers about the topic you have written on this lens. After this use a text module and write a good article about topic or keyword chosen but do not write about affiliate product. Your main goal should be to give the user the information they are looking for and recommend them the affiliate offer you have chosen in the article.
If you love the topic or have passion for it then stick to this and produce user loving lenses and help them know more about the topic in return recommend them with related affiliate products and make money. This is the simplest squidoo affiliate marketing tip that you can get.
Now you have a great lens publish it, what about readers how do they know about your lens? To gain more exposure you need to promote your squidoo lens similar to promoting a blog post. The first job after publishing your lens is to ping it, use serves like pingomatic and pingoat to notify the search engines that your webpage is updated, read more on how to index your webpage. If your topic has low competition then you will get a good rank or else you have to build links to your lens to rank in the first page.
Once you secure the first page track the keywords users used to arrive at your lens and include them in your lens or build a separate lens on that keyword if necessary to drive even more traffic. Also analyze the sales use the squidoo’s built in link tracking facility to see which links are most clicked on the lens. If you are using a clickbank affiliate product then try using tracking id for each link you place in the lens, this will help you determine which position of the lens are driving majority of the sales.
When you follow all the guidelines and create a unique and useful content with the readers in mind, squidoo affiliate marketing will be the best as it can be.
